At Wolfe Sound & Music, we are a company dedicated to serving our community. We recognize the importance of the arts and are wanting to do our part to contribute to a healthy artistic environment in Kenora.
We first launched The Piano Project in the spring of 2018. As a company, we decided to show our appreciation for the arts and thought this project was a creative way of doing so. In 2018, The Piano Project consisted of two painted and covered pianos located in downtown Kenora. After a tremendous amount of success in the summer of 2018, we decided to expand the project to four pianos located throughout the streets of downtown Kenora for the summer of 2019.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Piano Project was inspired by a video noticed online with a similar concept being done in a large city centre. The concept of The Piano Project is to create an accepting environment for people to make music at any time of the day in a public space. We accomplish this by taking upright pianos, having murals painted on them and then placing them in high traffic areas within our community. Wolfe Sound & Music has teamed up with three local partners to contribute to the success of this project. As a part of a murals art credit at St. Thomas Aquinas High School of the Kenora Catholic District School Board, students will design and paint the pianos to give them a makeover before hitting the streets. It is also important for these pianos to be protected from the elements throughout their time outdoors. McMunn and Yates Building Supplies has generously donated all of the materials needed to build shelters for the pianos. Most importantly, we need to ensure we have locations reserved for these pianos. We have worked closely with Tourism Kenora to determine locations that would encourage optimal use. Wolfe Sound & Music along with the Kenora Catholic District School Board, McMunn & Yates Building Supplies and Tourism Kenora are excited to be the drive behind this community initiative.
We want to encourage you to be involved with The Piano Project. Please play the pianos as much as you would like and post a photo or video using the hashtag #thepianoprojectkenora
